When I aggressively attack the snooze button and drag myself wearily out of bed, fumbling desperately for the coffee pot and snarling at my hungry cats, I know it’s a minty morning.
My secret to beating back the cloud of fatigue: soap infused with peppermint essential oil. When I shower with it, the bright, refreshing scent works its aromatherapeutic magic, lifting my spirits and pointing me toward a bright and productive day.
Aromatherapy is a healing modality that uses essential oils -- that is, oils extracted from plants and flowers -- to improve your mood, mental outlook or physical health. Different oils have different effects. To perk up body, mind and spirit, I choose energizing essential oils like peppermint or rosemary. And for reducing stress or anxiety, I look for calming oils like lavender and chamomile.
Essential oils can be diffused, dropped into a warm bath (a few drops does the trick) or combined with a carrier oil. Have you ever used essential oils?
